The building incorporates a purpose built lecture/projection theatre and an upstairs area for activities. Although we have some historic photographs and painted canal ware and costume displayed, we have deliberately avoided giving the building a museum like feel. We prefer to think of it as a workplace for learning about canals. There are toilets (including disabled) and space for children to eat a packed lunch. In the immediate vicinity of the Pumphouse is Blowers Green Lock and canals lead off in three directions. A canal walk of about 45 minutes can incorporate Blowers Green Lock (the deepest in the Black Country Canal System) a toll office, and Canal Company Cottage, two canal arms, a railway viaduct, three locks at Parkhead, and the entrance to the Dudley Tunnel. Slightly further afield are the remains of a canal destroyed by mining subsidence and a tunnel that was opened out into a cutting.
