EQUIPMENT

Here at Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust we have a number of boats which can be hired for use for canal clean ups, bridge and canal structural surveys and grounds maintenance.

They can be hired as a standalone unit for a half or whole day and we can also provide a tug boat and skipper to assist with your project.

Bittel - Diesel powered tug boat which is easy to manage and can tow either or both work boats.

                42 foot (12.9 meters) length x 7 foot 6" (2.13 meters) width/beam.

Trusty - Non-powered high sided work boat which can carry large loads.

                50 foot (15.24 meters) length x 5 feet 10" (1.8 meters) width/beam.

Flying Scott - Non-powered work boat which can carry light loads.

                50 foot (15.24 meters) length x 5 feet 10" (1.8 meters) width/beam.

FILM/COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Here at Dudley Canal and Tunnel trust we can offer you some amazing places for film locations, unique backdrops and commercial photography.

With our atmospheric tunnels and caverns, basins and modern and historic boats we can offer you a range of options for all your requirements.

We are located 25 minutes from the centre of Birmingham and less than 3 hours from central London.

We also have great access to national rail (Tipton is our nearest station) and road network being close to the M6 & M5.

There are a range of accommodation providers within easy reach of the site along with a plentiful supply of restaurants.

On-Site

  • We have an experienced team who understand the operational needs of film crews and will be on-hand at all times during filming.
  • There is ample on-site parking which can accommodate large vehicles.
  • Our Gongoozler Restaurant can provide all your catering requirements or work in conjunction with your own caterers.
  • We have additional rooms which can be used as green rooms and production offices.
  • Our MCA trained Skippers can operate all boats and assist you with access to the tunnels and canal side areas.

We warmly encourage filming on site but we are first and foremost a visitor attraction so ask that all filming takes place outside of our opening hours and main season where appropriate. Where that’s not possible we will do our best to offer daytime filming but ask that you work with us to ensure our other visitors also have a great day.

All film crews will be required to have public liability insurance, to the minimum value of £10m, when filming on site. We will also need copies of risk assessments, method statements and a signed contract.

Please note - filming in our tunnels can cause some members of your team to feel uncomfortable, if you would like to come and do a familiarisation trip we can arrange this for you.
