It's that time of year again - time for our annual Festival of Light!

This year, Festival of Light will be taking place on Saturday 16th November, with boats running from 10.30am throughout the day until 5.00pm. Discover our caverns in a new light as you take a FREE 30 minute trip underground to see our magical illuminations, accompanied by a musical soundtrack.

There are no pre-bookings for Festival of Light - all tickets are allocated on the day on a first-come, first-served basis. On arrival head to the ticket office and you'll be allocated seats on the next available boat.

There may be a wait for boats at busy times, particularly during the middle part of the day. Whilst you're waiting, why not browse our gift shop, have a drink, snack or meal in the Gongoozler or take part in a free craft activity in our activity room? You'll also find a small play space in our activity room for families with young children, and plenty to explore in our interactive Biffa Award Gallery, Waterside Gallery and Tunnel Treasures spaces.

We want everyone to enjoy their day with us at Festival of Light, so if you or someone in your group has any additional needs please get in touch with us as there are lots of things we can do to help make your day magical. Just email us at [email protected] with the details of the needs of your group and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

If you've still got questions about the day, check out our FAQ below. Otherwise we'll see you on Saturday 16th November for Festival of Light!

Will the Gongoozler be open? Can I buy food on the day?

- Absolutely! The Gongoozler will be open from 9am serving drinks and light breakfasts so that you can grab a bite to eat before you board your boat. Later in the day we'll be selling a special Festival of Light menu that will include hot and cold drinks, cakes, snacks and food such as jacket potatoes, burgers and hot dogs. The Gongoozler will shut at around 5pm when the last boat departs. You can also buy grab and go drinks and snacks from our Snack Stop, open from 12pm to 3pm, which you're welcome to take onto the boat with you.

Is it really free? Do I have to pay for parking?

- It really is free! There is no mandatory charge for use of our car park, though you'll see a donation box by our entrance if you wish to leave us a donation. As a charity we're extremely grateful for all donations as they help us to run events like this in the future, so you'll find donation boxes and buckets around the building if you want to leave a contribution before or after your trip.

Can I get to you from the Black Country Living Museum? Can I get to the Museum from you?

- Regular visitors will know that there is an access gate from the museum site to our towpath. However, on Festival of Light day that gate will be closed and there will be no access to or from the museum. So, if you're wanting to visit the BCLM in addition to your boat trip, you'll need to head back to your car and drive around to the museum car park once you've come back from your boat trip.

Can I book in advance for Festival of Light?

- We don't take advance bookings for Festival of Light, as we've found in the past that people will often book and not turn up for free events. On the day you'll need to head to the ticket desk in person to book tickets for your group. We can't take bookings over the phone, but if you give us a call on the day we can advise you of the current wait time between booking and boarding. You can also keep an eye on our social media channels during the day for updates.

I've got a question you haven't answered! What do I do?

- Just send us an email to [email protected] or give us a call on 0121 557 6265 and we'll be happy to answer any questions you might have.
